Ian began his career in 1982 at Lloyd’s broking with Walsham Brothers, specialising in London market excess business. After two years, he was offered a position at RA Edwards (219) to join the US Casualty & Property Claims team where he later became Claims Manager and was part of the market initiatives in asbestos, pollution and health hazard claims co-ordinating groups. In 1993 Ian moved to the D P Mann syndicate to manage the claims on the US Casualty Treaty and direct professional indemnity portfolios and focussed on audit and review of major clients writing Medical Malpractice, Lawyers professional indemnity and other Casualty lines.

Ian joined Aspen Re in 2002 as part of the US Casualty team and managed both the team and claims for the book, he also oversaw the continued development of hi-tech solutions for gathering and collaborating information, and helped add to the team’s depth of expertise through his claims experience.

In July 2009 Ian joined Renaissance Re Syndicate 1458 as Director of Claims and Contracts and moved to take over the Underwriting of the Casualty Treaty book in August 2010. This is now a book of Global Casualty business covering professional indemnity, medical malpractice, general liability and financial lines.

Ian has spoken at the American Trial Lawyers Association, Vermont Captive Insurance Association, Global Reinsurance Symposium, Self Insurance Institute of America and is a regular attendee at PLUS, ABA Nabrico, PIAA and other major Industry conferences.

Ian is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and is the first person in the UK to have received the Associate in Captive Insurance designation from the International Center for Captive Insurance Education.
